I have a pair of model 15s and the woofer look the same. As noted by Bolt above the VC is different. GPA lists the cones as different numbers so I suspect he is correct. I have seen many similar style altec woofers at the auction site and they are sometimes listed as having come out of either 14s or 15s.
I do know the Altec model 9842 speakers used the same woofer as in your 14s.
I also have 9849-8Ds that have the 414 woofers and these are completely different and IMO a much better woofer. Not sure how this could or would work as a replacment in the 14s.
The woofer you need to keep it exact does appear from time to time so be patient and keep searching the auctions.
I am of the mind to keep Altec speakers as original as possible and that the altec engineers knew what they were doing when designing these beauties. When you change the original woofers or XOs you no longer have model 14s as they were intended to be or sound.
I do very much agree that the 14s & 15s do sound better then the 19s in a smaller sound stage and can go as low or lower. There is such a thing as too much speaker for a given room and 19s do require so space to sound their best- space that is not always available in many livingroom applications. Probably why Altec made the smaller 14s & 15s in the first place.
Keep looking and you will find exactly what you need, four pairs of either 14 or 15 woofs have recently sold in the past two months if I recall correctly. They are out there!

I am very confident you will be happy with the model 14 if you have the correct woofers in them & are working properly.
If you like the 19's you will like the 14's
with a good quality preamp & poweramp or itegrated system, the 14's sound very good indeed.

Great to hear Mike! I will watch for your impressions.
My hope is to, SMOEDAY, have 14s,15s,17s,18s and 19s. I just like these lines. There are a few very nice speakers in between these and I have some of them.
Collecting Altecs has been a pleasure for both my ears and my blood preasure. The better models can be repaired so with a bit of expense, none are relegated to the landfills.
No other speaker in my path has ever come close to these virtues.
Enjoy the 14s but know this, some Altecs are alot nicer so your search may not end here!
Have a BLAST.

If the "origional" woofer you have is stamped, it is not the origional. The 14 came with cast woofers. The cast frame of the Model 14 is the same as the Model 9 Series II, Santana Series II and the Model 15 Series II, but they all have a larger voice coil. The series I, had a stamped woofer.
Sounds like you needed a pair. Good to hear you found them! They can be repaird by GPA in OKC if necessary.
Let us know how it all works out! Welcome to the world of Altec!
